The pictures I take of my fish and scenery come out very nice, I have people complement my pictures. First of all, I have been hard on this camera and it has resisted all of my attempts to damage it. I'm definitely not a photographer so the camera is responsible for the pictures, not me I bought this camera when they were clearing it out for the new models. I have had it for a year now and have nothing but good things to say.
Now, our son is not a heavy man so we were perplexed that it crushed. He was also very pleased with the photo quality of the camera. We figured he would need a camera that was waterproof and rugged.
We were quite pleased that Olympus honored the crush warranty for this camera. Recommend, yet do not think this camera cannot crush with moderate pressure. Now our son has another Olympus (that we purchased on Amazon) that is an upgrade and we have this one.
We purchased this camera for our son who builds water parks and takes photographs of job progress. But since it had been less than 1 year, we contacted Olympus and sent the camera with receipt to them and received the repaired (and new looking) camera very quickly. Do not recommend the price as we paid much less than the price listed here ($399)today.
It fit the bill, however, it was crushed by his leaning on it when it was perched on the center console in his truck. The crush job destroyed the LCD screen.
I have taken many pictures both above and below water. Fast, reliable service with good repair of my camera (and they gave me a new battery too), thanks Olympus. I took it to Egypt, Aruba, Belize.
I have taken pictures in the rain, dropped the camera and still great photos. Back to taking great photos within a week. In Belize, I banged the camera on the ladder after snorkeling, however, I was still able to take great photos using a "point and shoot" method as I was unable to see the image on the LCD screen (handy information should this happen to you) and I had to weigh the price of repair versus a new camera (of course, I would upgrade to the 1030 if I bought a new one) and opted for the repair.
I have owned this camera since September 2007. You just have to be aware of the shutter lag which seems longer here, than with my Kodak digital camera but the kodak doesn't go underwater. LOVE this camera.
I took about 1400 photos in Egypt -in the water, in the desert, from the bus window, at night, at sunrise and sunset -the only 'bad' photos were due to photographer (ME) error -the shutter lag is very long which is easy to forget. It takes great photos.
but is is still very tough. and highly recommended for those people whom are less than delicate with electronics.PS, I would not recommend trying to do what they do in the advert with it though, as I doubt it would survive intact. I purcahsed this as a Christmas present for my step daughter, she is very heavy handed and dare I say it clumsy, it has taken several drops to the ground and has a few war wounds and scars on it now, but it still works perfectly. It has enough gadgets on it to keep a teenager occupied for ages, the picture quality is amazing compared to a lot of compact camera's around this price range. altogether a great buy.
IF YOU NEED A CAMERA THAT CAN GO ANYWHERE UNDER SEVERE CONDITION THIS IS THE CAMERA TO TAKE. THIS CAMERA IS GREAT, TAKE REALLY GOOD QUALITY, COLOR, DIGITAL PICTURES. GREAT CAMERA, GREAT PRICE. IT'S NOT A SLR BUT YOU CAN TAKE IT PLACES WHERE YOU NORMALLY WOULDN'T HAVE YOUR SLR. I CARRY IT AROUND ALL DAY IN POCKET SO IT GETS A LOT OF WEAR AND TEAR AND IT STILL WORKS GREAT. CANT SAY ENOUGH GOOD ABOUT IT.
